My Favorite Project This Semester, And How It’s Shaping My Future
If you had asked me at the start of this semester which project I’d enjoy most, I probably would’ve said something safe like a press release or maybe a short news article. But looking back now, I can honestly say that my favorite project was the feature article I wrote and published on Medium: “Behind the Uniform: A Decade of Quiet Vigilance at a Dubai Lube Factory.”
There was something different about this one. It wasn’t just an assignment; I felt connected to the story. I was writing about a real person I know, someone living and working here in Dubai, whose quiet resilience deserved to be seen. The process of interviewing, digging into details, writing, and rewriting until the tone felt right reminded me why I love storytelling in the first place. Not just for the headlines, but for the human behind them.
What surprised me was how deeply it made me think about the kind of communicator I want to become. It wasn't just about reporting facts; it was about honoring someone’s experience, giving it a voice, and hopefully helping others see dignity in places they might overlook. That one story made me consider focusing more on long-form human interest journalism or brand storytelling in the future, areas where empathy and creativity matter as much as clarity and structure.
So yes, this project has absolutely affected my career outlook. It made me realize that while marketing, content strategy, and social media all have their place (and I enjoyed those projects too), I’m most alive when I’m telling real, meaningful stories. And I want more of that in my future.
Here’s to the stories still waiting to be told.
